Lukas Hageman is a PhD researcher, hosted at UCD in Dublin within the HUM.AI.N-ACCENT network. He completed a Master’s programme in Interaction Technology at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. His thesis project was on using a conversational agent for learning a second language, Dutch in particular.

Where his previous research dealt with non-native speech from the user side, his current research is on foreign-accented speech by AI agents. He looks at how this type of speech influences human-AI conversations, the partner models users maintain of their digital interlocutor, and informativity in language production.
